End of Year Announcements!
Greetings dancers!
What a busy time it has been and the fun isn’t stopping until our very last week for the year!
Concert
Congratulations to all our dancers who put on an amazing show. I think we can all agree their hard work over the ten weeks paid off in spades!
A message to our performers: Your photos and video will be sent out as soon as they’re ready. Don’t forget to RSVP (by emailing us) to the Concert Viewing Party at Dendy Cinemas Canberra on Saturday 23 November.
Masterclasses & Workshops
We have some exciting opportunities to learn from industry professionals coming up! Some dates and times are still be to ironed out - so keep an eye on our Instagram or Facebook page to avoid missing out.
Astrid Rodger
Following her successful career overseas and in Australia, this classically trained but multi-faceted dancer is offering masterclasses in not one, but two dance styles!
Broadway Jazz Masterclass 12th November 7:30-8:45pm (Elementary level and above)
Adv. Beginner Ballet Masterclass 23rd November 9:30-11am
Int/Adv Ballet Masterclass 30th November 11am-12:30pm
Ryan Rankin & Rochelle Ford
These ex-professional brother and sister dancers will be teaching an hour-long ballet masterclass followed by a neo-classical piece from the Swedish Ballet on Sunday 8th December 1-3pm! This will be aimed at dancers at the Intermediate level and above.
Ryan will also be providing a ballet masterclass for Beginner to Adv. Beginner level dancers - dates and times TBC! He will also be a panel member for the Inter/Advanced Nutcracker Audition so feel free to come and say hello to him!
Matthew Bindley & Anna Bindley
This husband and wife team from some of Europe’s best companies will be offering a ballet masterclass before the end of 2024 - so keep an eye out!
Jemma Beckett-Osbourne
You may have seen her around the studio for covers and she has been doing an incredible job offering Dance Therapy private lessons. But the talent doesn’t stop there! This Moulin Rouge showgirl of eight years will be teaching a showgirl workshop before the end of 2024. Dates and times TBC, so watch this space!
Sugar Kaye Grefaldo
We don’t want to leave the Hip Hop Crew out of opportunities following their huge success at the concert! A familiar face around the Canberra dance scene, Sugar recently held a residency with Ausdance in her one-woman show at the Canberra Theatre. She will be teaching a Hip Hop Workshop on a Tuesday night - date and time coming soon!
6P Teacher Workshops
Your favourite Emily will be hosting a Kicks, Leaps and Turns workshop next Tuesday 5th November to improve all your best tricks! This workshop will inform the 2025 schedule for levels so if you’re interested - sign up!
The lovely Madeline Forner will be hosting some heels workshops on Friday nights so look out for these if you are keen to see this as part of regular scheduling for 2025.
And of course all your favourite teachers will be hosting extra-fun, Xmas-themed classes in our last week of operation (16-21 December 2024) so watch out for that.
Studio Expansion!
It is with great excitement that we announce and share some photos of our new Mitchell space to compliment one of our existing city locations!
Located on the tram line, the studios will be a two minute walk from the Sandford Street tram stop with plenty of free parking on Flemington Road.
The premises will include two large, equal-size studios that are side-by-side to allow for better scheduling. Each studio measures 12x9m - a similar length to the Northbourne Studio danceable space but with an additional 3m width to travel on the diagonals.
Both studios will have a toilet each - accessible once you’re in the dance spaces. They will also have curtains to cover the mirrors and very excitingly, will meet the requirements to host our own RAD exams! Additionally, the premises will feature a small storage unit for all our costumes, props and equipment.
Our hope is to add some greenery and benches outdoors to create a welcoming space for students to socialise before or after classes.
Front Studio
With big floor-to-ceiling glass doors facing Flemington Road, this space will be bright and airy. A small entryway with cubbies and a change room will allow you to store your belongings and get changed before class.
Opening up to a fully sprung, light-grey dance floor with floor-to-ceiling mirrors, this flooring (same as the Australian Ballet!) will be suitable for all soft-shoes, bare feet and pointe classes.
With the large double doors and an accessible toilet, this studio will allow us to expand our dance therapy offerings and seated dance classes!
Back Studio
Down the side of the building is a private pathway with flood lighting to be installed for safety. This will lead to our new black-box studio! Entry via the side door (or through the front studio) takes you into a small hallway with cubbies for belongings.
This studio will also provide us with a small performance space, ideal for live-streaming and filming dance videos or community performances, complete with stage lighting, floor-to-ceiling mirrors and a fully sprung, black dance floor suitable for any dance styles (tap and heel work included).
City Location
Following a happy miscommunication with the previous tenancy, we now have our choice of city locations to keep! We are currently working through lease negotiations with both of the landlords to find the best outcome for 6th Position students who will still need access to a central location. Works to improve one of these spaces will be done in time, as budget allows.
2025 Schedule
Conversations with our fabulous teachers have started and we will work to bring you the 2025 schedule soon. For any south-Canberra students who are concerned with certain classes still being offered at the city location, please feel free to share any concerns you have via email.
The Nutcracker In July 2025
Auditions for next year’s Nutcracker production are available for sign-up now! Once again offering opportunities for beginners to advanced dancers to participate in a narrative-ballet, we hope to see you there! All the information is available on our Nutcracker page.
